We will be making home made maxi pads using old clothes and towels. We can simultaneously recycle worn out clothing, we'll be reusing the maxi pads, which lessens our contributions to landfills and we'll save money by not having to purchase "Always" brand crappy pads (which make my crotchal region itch.) Plus, you can use your favorite fabrics such as satin and velvet and choose calming or outrageous patterns to match your mood (or outfit). Treat your vagina like a princess, I always say!

I perform "dirty folk rock" songs and tell ribald jokes. I tour from time to time, and one day on tour with The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, Tina (the mom) suggested to me that I make home made maxi pads to sell at my merchandise table. She'd been making home made pads for years. After some consideration, we decided to get serious about it. We decided to "title" them appropriate to what they were and what they encompassed. Tina came up with "Planetary Napkins". (Always the wise ass, I came up with "Aunt Florence's Old Time Poonani Rags", which was spicy, but a bit over the top.) We have been having pad making parties at her house for several months now. We turn up the Cheap Trick or the Led Zeppelin, cook up some beans or eat ice cream and bust out the sharp scissors and sew. The result has been tons of beautiful home made maxi pads, which we keep, use, give to friends as gifts and sell on tour.
